Rare Earth Mineral Recycling
Industry Served: Chemical Process
Problem:
A rare earth mineral recycling facility required pulsation control across multiple process lines handling high temperature, chemically aggressive fluids containing entrained solids. The system included both AODD and peristaltic pumps, each generating pressure pulsation that affected process stability and equipment reliability.
In addition to the harsh process conditions, all pressure containing equipment was required to meet CRN requirements, adding an important regulatory constraint.
Solution:
A combination of 13 BLACOH SENTRY 175cu in and 85 cu. in. pulsation dampeners were provided, with each unit selected based on pump type and process conditions.
- Automatic dampeners were applied to AODD pumps to handle variable pressures and flow conditions without the need for manual pre-charge adjustments.
- Chargeable dampeners were installed on peristaltic pumps where operating conditions were stable.
- Corrosion resistant materials, including Hastelloy, were used where aggressive chemistry and high temperatures required enhanced durability.
All dampeners were properly sized for the application and fully CRN registered for compliance.
Result:
The installed dampeners delivered reliable pulsation control across all process lines.
Key outcomes included:
- Significant reduction in pressure pulsation
- Smoother, more controlled flow
- Reduced vibration and mechanical stress on piping, valves, and instrumentation
- Reliable performance in high temperature, corrosive, solids-laden service
- Full regulatory compliance with Ontario CRN requirements
The result was a stable, protected, and compliant system designed for long-term operation in a demanding rare earth recycling application.
