Chemical Process Leak in Boston
Industry Served: Chemical Process
Problem:
A chemical processing plant in the Boston area experienced a critical failure when the diaphragm on their AODD pump tore during operation. As a result, process fluid began escaping through the muffler, creating both a safety hazard and potential contamination issue.
Additionally, the system was experiencing vibration, causing the connected pipes to shake. This combination of fluid leakage and excessive vibration posed risks to personnel safety, equipment integrity, and process reliability, requiring immediate attention to prevent further damage and potential downtime.
Solution:
We installed a comprehensive solution to address both the leakage and vibration issues. First, we installed a SPILLSTOP device to protect against any future diaphragm failure incidents by containing fluid leaks. Then, to eliminate the problematic vibrations, we installed dampeners on both the inlet and discharge sides of the pump system. This complete setup stabilized the pumping operation and provided protection against future diaphragm ruptures.
Result:
The customer was fully satisfied with the installation and performance of the new setup. The inlet and discharge dampeners eliminated the pipe vibration issues, and the SPILLSTOP stands ready to capture fluid leaks. The plant now operates safely and reliably, with peace of mind that future diaphragm failures won't result in hazardous spills or equipment damage.
